"POOR SERVICE"

A review of Au Bar by Joan Inglis written on Monday 21st of July 2008

My husband and I visited Au Bar on Sunday 20.07.08 and were bitterly disappointed by the poor service, in particular, the kitchen. I hasten to add that the two bar staff were pleasant. My husband ordered a pint of lager. When he started to drink it, it had the taste of bleach/cleaning fluid. He took it back to the bar and it was replaced with a pint of Guinness. The barmaid said that the pipes had just been 'cleaned out'. We ordered food. My husband had burritos and I ordered jacket potato with haggis. We had to wait 35 minutes for the food. Incidentally, the pub only had two other customers who were eating their food, so I assume that the kitchen was not busy. The barmaid apologised for the length of time we had to wait for our food and offered a complimentary coffee, which we declined. My husband's food was perfectly acceptable, but mine was not. I do not know how a chef cannot serve up a decent jacket potato. The skin was charred, there were uncooked pieces of potato, there was no butter and some of the haggis was so over-microwaved it was brick hard and therefore inedible. There is absolutely no excuse for food of this standard being served. We were both very disappointed as we have visited this pub a number of times in the past. Sadly, we will not be back..
