"The real deal..."A review of Kimiko by Jayoh - Saturday 27th of October 2007Advertisements
Kimiko is the genuine article. A proper unisex hairdressers of the sort you may have thought was extinct. Bruntsfield is full of students, and the guys in Kimiko have been cutting hair since before most of them were born, and maybe some of their parents too. Respect. The guy who cut my hair said that his aim was cuts that people could manage at home. He reckoned there was 'no point' creating a look that could only ever work with professional styling. I suppose that's a way of saying that the quality of the cut is all important. I'll go with that. I've got a bit fed up with paying a premium for 'designers' and 'senior stylists' and a style that looks like a dead cat the next morning. At Kimiko I got impartial advice (which turned out to be spot on) and there was no attempt to rack up the price with fancy products. It's also a great place if your kids want a proper hair cut instead of a numbered head shave. Scaffolding on the building has made the salon easy to miss, which may be why it was so quiet last time I was in. Or maybe it's the prices - can a place that reasonable be any good? Well yes it can. |
