"Pros & Cons re Globespan's flights"

A review of Globespan Group PLC by Kevin Hutchinson written on Monday 3rd of September 2007

Being a very seasoned traveller and always flying by business class I agreed to travel from Manchester to Hamilton to a relative's wedding by Globespan. I booked 4 business class seats and was pleasantly surprised at the cost, which perhaps I should have realised may have been too good to be true.

The first appalling sight was that the seats that we were allocated were 2 sets of 3 seats, which were intented for the 4 of us, in essence merely leaving the middle seat vacant. When I pre-booked the seats on line, the seat plan clearly showed 2 sets of 2 seats, giving more generous seat space as such be the case. Whilst the leg room was more than adequate, the pitch of the seat was no different than the economy seats on the aircraft and the actual seats were quite uncomfortable. This was little more than a falsification of the seating plan and Globespan did not supply what they offered.

On the outward leg of our trip we were given platic cutlery, which is something I hate, and the food was average at best. For whatever reason the aircraft, a 737-800 needed to make a 45 minutes fuel stop in Iceland, which did not happen with the same type of aircraft on the return flight, although the 737 is a small aircraft to use to the N. American market.

There was no class segregation on the flights, and the smells that emanated from the toilets on both flights was seriously bad at times.

Conversely, the food on the return leg was excellent, with stainless steel cutlery and super food.

The best fact about the flights in general was the quality of the in-flight service, which was as good as any mainstream airline.

I guess that in life you get what you pay for, and unless the seating and toiletery situations are improved I cannot see myself using Globespan in the near future, but to be fair the business class price is cheap and the 40 kgs baggage allowance very handy..
